Building Codes and Design Parameters

*The City has officially adopted the following building codes, links are provided to the adopted ordinances for your review: 2021 International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and International Plumbing Code (IPC), along with amendment language as outlined in the attached ordinance. Additionally, the City has adopted the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC) with amendments. 

It is essential to note that there is a required review period following code adoption, and the 2021 codes will go into effect on April 24, 2024*

The City has adopted the following Building Codes with local amendments. You may reference the various code sections by the Chapter listed in the City Municipal Code (Municode)

Design Parameters for Architects and Engineers:

  • Ground Snow Load = 20
  • Wind Speed = 115 mph
  • Seismic Design Category = C
  • Frost Line Depth = 30”

Accordance with City Nuisance Ordinances, the erection, excavating, demolition, alteration or repair of any building must take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. 

Urgent necessity such as an emergency or public safety may require operations that are not routine and therefore would not comply with the referenced construction time. If a resident finds that a nuisance exists regarding construction practices as mentioned above, and if it is outside of normal office hours please call the Wentzville Police Department's non-emergency line at (636) 327-5105. Residents may also submit a concern online or call the Customer Service Center at (636) 639-2121.
