Work Force
Although the unemployment figure for St. Charles County is low at 3.0%, much of the available workforce commute to neighboring communities. In 1990 more than 50% of the workers who live in Jefferson, Warren, St. Charles, and Lincoln counties held their jobs outside their home county. Counties that were primarily suburban and/or agricultural in the past follow a recent trend of exporting available workers. The 3.0% unemployment rate does not reflect the amount of workers who may choose to stay close to their residence in lieu of a daily commute if a business or industry should choose to locate in Wentzville.
