It Starts with YOU!

#BuildingSafetyMonth2024

The City of Wentzville recognizes that our growth and strength depends on the safety and economic value of the homes, buildings and infrastructure that serve our citizens, both in everyday life and in times of natural disaster. The structural integrity of these buildings can be achieved through the vigilance of the building safety officials, in conjunction with the design professionals and the people of the construction industry. The building safety inspectors in the City are members of the International Code Council, the organization that brings together the experts who work to create and implement the building codes that ensure the safety, health and welfare of the public.

In May 2024, the City of Wentzville is participating in the 44th annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council. Its members and partners promote building safety. First observed in 1980, Building Safety Month raises awareness about critical safety issues including but not limited to structural, fire prevention, plumbing and mechanical systems, and energy efficiency.

Building codes and the officials who enforce them make our families and communities safer and more resilient. Homes and buildings that are built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage. In the wake of a disastrous tornado season, fires and potential earthquakes, building safety is even more important. Building safety affects everyone, and modern, updated building codes save lives.
