Administration Department
The Administration Department is responsible for supervising and coordinating the operations of all City departments within the local government, advising the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on policy matters, implementing the policies of the Board, ensuring that the City budget is executed as authorized by the Mayor and Board, enforcing all ordinances, responding to citizen inquiries and coordinating City service requests, supervising and maintaining the City’s personnel system, disseminating public information to the residents and businesses, and maintaining the City’s official records.
Services:
1. City Management
The City Administrator, with the help of the staff, is responsible for conducting policy research, providing policy recommendations to the Mayor and Board, implementing adopted legislation, carrying out the policy direction of the Board citywide, ensuring the execution of the City budget as authorized by the governing body, promoting community relations by working with the residential and business community, coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of all City departments, and managing City personnel to ensure consistency in both direction and operation.
2. General Administration
The Administration Department is responsible for conducting the general administrative activities of the City, including the collection of revenue, publication of the Vision newsletter, risk management activities, communicating with individuals and businesses within Wentzville and outside the community, enforcing and administering City policies, administering the City’s sanitation and recycling programs, and providing general assistance and staff support to the other City departments.
3. Records, Information, and Legislation
Through the Administration Department, the City Clerk keeps and maintains the official records of the City, including the Municipal Code and all Ordinances and Resolutions, public meeting minutes, all records pertaining to elections and terms of office, and public hearing records, etc. The City Clerk is responsible for drafting legislation for review by the staff and consideration by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, and provides public information relating to matters of City business which are pending, as required by State Statute.
4. Financial Management
While the Finance Department is exclusive of the Administration Department, the two work very closely together. The Finance Department is responsible for maintaining and administering all the City’s financial matters and transactions, including financial policies, the City budget, cash receipts, cash disbursements, payroll functions, cash management, investments, and financial reporting.
5. Economic Development
While the Economic Development Department is exclusive of the Administration Department, the two work very closely together. The Economic Development Department is responsible for stimulating the economic growth and vitality of the community, the influx of capital, the creation of local jobs, enhancement of the City’s assessed value, and facilitating educational and training opportunities to achieve an enhanced business environment.
